Welcome
I am an experienced counsellor and cognitive behaviour (CBT) psychotherapist offering short- and longer-term therapy in the Brighton and Hove area. I also offer mindfulness facilitation, training and supervision.
Counselling and CBT
Counselling and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) are therapies that effectively address a wide range of human problems, concerns and interests. You may be seeking help or support for a specific difficulty, or you may be interested in personal development or broader life issues. Being both a counsellor and a cognitive behaviour (CBT) therapist means I can be flexible in my approach and tailor my work to suit your needs.
Since 2006, I have worked with many people to address a wide range of issues relating to mental health and psychological wellbeing. I have worked in public, private and third sectors, including as a staff therapist for Brighton and Hove NHS Primary Care Counselling Service, Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT), Priory Hospital, and Aurora CBT.
Mindfulness
I have a particular interest in mindfulness, having trained extensively in mindfulness-based practices since the 1990s. This informs the personal and professional approach to my work. Mindfulness-informed therapy recognises that body, mind and world are intricately connected, and takes a holistic approach accordingly. I have also written about mindfulness practice and mindfulness-informed therapy over the years. I have been facilitating regular Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) courses since 2007, and have also run numerous workshops for service users, service employees and psychotherapy trainees. I also provide mindfulness-based supervision for therapists.
Training and accreditations
My initial professional training was a BACP-accredited Diploma in Counselling at the Gestalt Centre in London. I am also a BABCP-accredited cognitive behaviour (CBT) therapist, having completed post-graduate training while working in the NHS. I am also a fully trained EMDR therapist.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an accredited member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and am bound by their ethical frameworks for good practice (both of these organisations are accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care). I am additionally registered as a mindfulness facilitator with the British Association for Mindfulness-based Approaches.
Please contact me if you would like to book an appointment or if you require further information. If you are not sure about therapy, I am happy to discuss what the best options might be for you.
